Large size LED-screens
iCast delivers hundreds of square meters of large size LED-screens for indoor and outdoor use every year. Our choice of our high-quality technology is adapted to customer needs. The very same LED technology and software as ours is used on the American Eagle Building in Times Square in New York.
There are many important variables when providing LED installations that are affordable, reliable and qualitative over time: the composition of LED modules and its components, diodes, power supplies, steel structures, IP class and the manufacturing process. An initially more expensive investment can also be profitable over time thanks to lower power consumption, longer lifespan and fewer service requirements.
Diodes
Diodes are one of many important quality factors such as image quality and brightness. Nichia, Silan, Cree, AXT and Epistar are some of the known diod brands. Silan is in many cases the most affordable option for its quality while Nichia is widely used in show business and the experience industry thanks to its superior image quality. Nichia is produced with better and more expensive components that provides better brightness, color accuracy, power consumption and durability. Prices for Silan is approximately 25% lower than Cree and 50% lower than Nichia. Diodes are also the most significant cost driver for LED modules.
Pitch
The pitch and size determines the screen resolution which is crucial for perceived image quality. Pitch is the distance in millimeters between each diode. For outdoor screens with DIP technique, the pitch varies between 8 mm and 25 mm. For indoor screens with SMD technology, the pitch varies between 0.5 mm to 10 mm. The lower the pitch, the more diodes per m2. A good guideline is to choose at least equal pitch in millimeters as the typical distance between the screen and audience.
